New blog post on my sister site ToniAllenBooks
Ever wondered how to use Tarot cards to time when something will happen? Now you can find out in my series of articles Tarot and Timing Events. The second post is all about interpreting The Magician in relation to timing future events.
I got the Magician and Justice to show the overall future in the month of July. am confused by the Justice card. So I drew a clarifier and got the 6 of Pentacles. Both Justice and 6/P has scales in them. Is this some kind of court case? I hope not. How else would you interpret this?
Makng things happen (magician) that are fair and right (justice)?
Getting a settlement?
Meeting a man with Magician like quality. It’s right and karmic (justce). He’s wealthy (6 of pentacles) and will control the relationship.
The Justice card s a hard one for me because in the past it’s always been about court proceedings.

Hi Laurel,
I think some of your confusion has arisen because of the nature of your question. You’ve asked a very ‘predictive’ question, in which you are asking the cards to tell you what the month of July will be like. July is the only subject the cards have to refer to, and nothing more specific. You could, therefore, interpret the spread you drew in ALL of the ways that you suggest.
Overall it’s a very positive spread. Even if there is a court case, it shows that justice will prevail and be fair. However, I much prefer the ‘meeting a man’ interpretation. The Magician is such a an active, positive card that I wouldn’t envisage this being associated with the doom and gloom of legal proceedings, unless it’s an on the spot fine, which is fair and justified.
You are absolutely correct in saying that the Justice card is about karma and correct timing of events. The 6 of Pentacles is about the balance of life, balance of payments and a fair exchange of energy with others. If the Magician is about meeting a man, then karmically it’s correct timing, and he’ll be very fair with you.
In future it would be best if you added something else to your question for each month, such as ‘How will my love life be in July’ or ‘Are there any problems coming up in July I need to be aware of?’
To help you resolve this question you could take three more cards with the question, ‘What part of my life are these cards referring to?’
Now I can’t wait until July to find out whether this is a niggly legal issue or a lovely man appearing in your life! Do let me know.

How are you my dear?
I hope all good. You deserve it.
I want some help in the three card spread (i think you said you wrote a book about three cards that i cant find anywhere)
I asked what my ex wanted from me and i had
Death-7 Wands-6 Pentacles.
Its weird to have death begining .. i van understand if it is in the end closing the spread…but in the begging i can not interpetate this.

Hi,
I haven’t finished preparing my book on the three card spread for publication. It will be avaiable soon.
The death card refers to endings, and you mention that this person is your ex, so there is your ending. It implies that they do not want the same type of relationship with you as they had before. They may well want a different type of relationship, such as friendship.
The 7 of Wands and 6 of Pentacles say that they want you to be happy around them, and to be fair with time and money. The 7 of Wands also says that they would like you to compliment them and say how good they look, and by return they will say pleasant things to you.
It’s all about give and take and balance, neither expecting more than the other is willing to offer.

Thank you very much.
I fyou have the time I would like to present a reading by your book.Exactly with same order of the 14 cards as you present it to your book System Of Symbols.
Its about a relationship i have now and asked about it.
1)Chariot (now)
2)Knight Pentacles (covering)
3)3 Wands (mind level)
4)Page of cups (past)
5)4 Pentacles (physical level)
6)Wheel of Fortune (near future)
7)Sun (future mind level)
8)Knight Cups(future mind level)
9)Queen Cups(future mind level)
10)2 Pentacles(future physical level)
11)6 Cups(future physical level)
12)Page Wands(future physical level)
13)10 Swords
14)Strenght
It would be very interesting to make a sense of your wonderful spread because it is difficult to compare cards especially from 7 to 14 as i cant understand if the mind level can or not connect at the end with the physical. And then the conclusing cards.I mean we interpretate it as 7 with 10, 8 with 11, and 9 with 12 as first step of future, second and third?Or as 789, and after 10,11,12?
An interpretation of this spread should be very helpful.
Thanks

Dear Toni,
I would like some help with the 2 cards as base and covering.
For example what if Ace of pentacles being covered by the Two of swords and vice versa if the 2 of swords is covered by the ace of pentacles.

Hi,
You couldn’t see a reply because I hadn’t yet approved your comment and found time to reply. But, I’m here now!
If the Ace of Pentacles is covered by the 2 of swords, there is concern over sharing money or knowledge. The Ace of pentacles represents wisdom and wealth, this is our knowledge, skills, plus anything that shows we have these skills, or that we have money. It can be anything from a degree certificate, to a bank statement, to a contract of employment.
The 2 of swords represents friction between two people, and a strained type of keeping the peace.
Therefore this combination implies that you’d wish to keep your financial affairs private, but someone is subtly pushing to know about them. However, you’d much rather put up with the tension than divulge your personal affairs.
When this combination is round the other way, we still have the tension of the 2 of swords, but this time the Ace of Pentacles is out in the open. It suggests boastfulness, for example someone letting someone else know how much money they’ve made, or what excellent exam results they’ve had. The other person smiles and tries not to get confrontational, knowing that the Ace of Pentacles person knows they don’t earn as much, or didn’t do so well in their exams.
The 2 of Swords always involves two people, hardly ever more. It’s that horrible tension we feel when we know that a confrontation is brewing. But, who will start the argument? Neither person wants to be seen as the aggressor.

Hello Toni,
We made a spread with my sister to find out if she will work to a cafe on the beach for summer time. She pulled 3 cards that was ACE OF PENTACLES-2 OF SWORDS-QUEEN OF SWORDS.
We guess that the boss will have tension betweenher and this queen of swords, and she will not work continiously but part time because of the other person.Or if the other queen is she,she will not be happy with the result.
We would like and your opinion of this.
We thank you.

Hi,
I think you’re interpretation is pretty accurate. The Ace of Coins usually means that someone will secure a contract, so it looks like your sister will be offered a job. The Queen of Swords could be the boss or a co-worker, but whoever it is, they’re not very pleasant to work alongside. The two of Swords is all about keeping the peace, so your sister will have to bite her tongue and be polite even when she’s insulted, or treated as if she’s stupid.
Your sister will probably be treated as the underdog. One reason for this might be that Ace of Coins. Customers will most likley give your sister good tips, and that will create bitterness in someone who’s worked their longer.

Excactly Toni..We thank you very much..
At least i have a question..How the interpretation would be changed,if in the place of the TWO OF SWORDS we had JUSTICE?So it coul be ace pentacles-justice-queen of swords.
Because to your book you say that is all about karmic bonds(i saw and to your sex and tarot book)but i can not interpretate this card to real events..
LikeLike
If you had Justice between the ace of pentacles and queen of swords, with a work question, it would mean that karmically you were destined to work alongside this type of person in order to learn something. The ace of pentacles is also about wisdom as well as wealth. With the queen of swords it is most likely a personal learning curve, rather than a work focused issue. The queen of swords is often resentful, so the questioner has been put in this position to learn how to work alongside someone who is unpleasant.
The challenge here is to learn the lesson and not run away, because if the questioner doesn’t learn how to handle this type of person, they will be presented with the same type of person in whatever job they go to next. Until they learn to stand up, be stronger and not take the queen of sword’s pettiness personally.

Just like you I expected my article to be live by now, but they’re in the US, so times are very different.
Assuming these cards were drawn for a work question: if you swap the order of the cards you end up with the suggestion that the questioner might be the one who is bitter. The Two of Swords refers to keeping the peace and biting back from being angry. Next to the Ace of Coins there’s a feeling of, ‘is that the best you can offer, even though I have these superb credentials.’ Certainly in a question concerning a work situation, the ace of coins person would feel they deserve more, or better. However, they might still get the spiteful work colleague, so in this situation the queen of swords ends up representing both the questioner and someone else.
Let’s look at these three cards in a very different situation. Let’s say that you’ve bought something and when you get home you find that it doesn’t work properly, so go to return it. The two of Swords is your frustration with the assistant (and the goods you’ve purchased). You’re being polite and trying not to get angry. After all, this is a total waste of your time and money. You have the receipt, the ace of coins. The assistant, the queen of swords, is still questioning whether to give you a refund. Again, the queen of swords represents both you and the shop assistant.

I want to tell you an interpretation.
A friend of mine, went after many years, for a reunion meeting with one old friend. She realized that she liked this boy.So she went out to see if she could make an affair. They went out for real , they had fun, they talked..but nothing happened, nor a sign of sexual interest..Becasuse she wasnt sure she pulled three cards to see if she can have an affair with him.The cards where 7 CUPS- DEVIL-2 SWORDS (This 2 swords alaways present in my readnigs😛 .. whats going on with this card??:P).
First the 7cups is daydreaming, the devil is bad habits or guilt to stand by oneself, and 2 swords as we a milion times said trying to keep the peace.
So probably nothing will go on with them in a love theme as she dreams for a romance but find herself guilt for this dreaming(maybe she is not getting the response)so she will not express the interest and continue to be like ”friends from the past” (trying to keep the piece.
How is my interpretation?

Your interpretation is really good. Well done! Definitely your friend is daydreaming, but feeling guilty about her make-believe affair, and yes, there is tension between these two people, a kind of friction, but nothing suggests that it’s sexual tension.
The question your friend needs to ask is ‘Is he interested in having an affair with me?’ So far she’s asked if she will have an affair with him, and the cards have showed her fantasy and frustration. But how does he feel?
I noticed that the two of swords is a reoccuring theme in your spreads. Perhaps you’d best draw three card sto find out why

It is a little bit weard that blocks me for its interpretation…

Hi Stelios,
With your King of Pentacles, 2 of Pentacles, 4 Pentacles, I’m curious to know whether the questioner is male or female. And I’ll show you why
You’re absolutely correct that the 2 Pentacles is vacillation. It’s dithering and indecision.
For a woman the King of pentacles would be the man she’s met, who’s probably in business and quite well set up financially. Her uncertainty comes from whether or not he’ll offer the security she’s after in a relationship. Sometimes the King of Pentacles can be mean with his money, overly cautious, which is how he’s accumalated wealth. Also, there is no romance here, and it feels very much like a business deal or a marriage of financial convenience.
If the reading is for a man, things are slightly different. Now he’s the King of Pentacles, the one with the money. Because the King of Pentacles always likes to feel secure financially, his indecision will come from wondering whether he can offer the woman enough security at this stage of his life. (I have seen these 3 cards when a King Of Pentacles man is concerned about getting married and how much that will cost, if he can buy a good enough house, and whether he’ll have enough money to finance having children. He wants ALL of that security before he will commit) Alternatively he may wonder how much the woman will cost him! And is she worth the investment, not just in money, but time as well. He doesn’t want to waste effort on a relationship that won’t result in long term commitment.

Hello my Dear Toni,
I feel very grateful. Not only your book but and you now personally help me improve the system.
About the all pentacles spread relationship, it was from a male friend of mine with his relationship with an other male. They are together since a year. The other person looks faithful and want to invest to his relationship with my friend..and my friend too..The other person is with the financial security because he has a job…my friend for now hasnt…The first vesion is about my friend;s concern. For no reason he had an illusion that his partner will not continue to give him the stability. But as the time prooved it was only a fear. This spread was a part from an entire spread that suggested for their relationship’s future the 6 pentacles, star and justice. So i wanted to clarify only these 3 cards because i couldnt interpretate them easy…
Your are gorgeous Toni..
About my female friend that we made the spread with the 7 cups-devil-2 swords for her past schoolmate, she did the spread you advised about how he sees the romance..and Toni it wasnt very good.PAGE SWORDS-TEMPERANCE-QUEEN OF PENTACLES.I will try to do the interpretation. The page is the mental gymnastic, the tricker and temperance is the okayness, so maybe she made a good impression of speaking with him, trick his mind, but not so much to create a sexual interest, they could go out for coffee , speak, but ok…now i cant understand about the person-cards..if this queen is my friend in his eyes..
That was her first 3 cards spread..And because she felt a disapointmet..she asked about the previous boy she felt in love but he only wanted sex from her..his view of her was 5 CUPS-HIGH PRIESTESS-DEVIL..And now it is real complicated for me as a begginer Toni, because the 5 is a bad atmosphere (haunted)-the priestess is block-the devil is guilt or bad habits. The first version is that he felt ”haunted”and this blocked him staying only to his bad habitts(sex). The second is that maybe in his life things (or his home) are not going so well that all these created a block to his romantic life and prefered only his addictions.

Hi Stelios,
Your male friends’ future relationship spread of 6 pentacles, star and justice is very good. 6 pentacles is about a positive balance of payments and generosity. This means that the financial situation will cease to be an issue. The Star card is hope and Justice refers to karmic bonds. Whether this is your friend finding a job and gaining income, or whether his partner is supporting him financially, doesn’t matter. The last two cards say that they are meant to be together and that through generosity of spirit they find a balance in all things.
Your female friend’s second spread doesn’t look very positive. PAGE SWORDS-TEMPERANCE-QUEEN OF PENTACLES. The Page of Swords is very clever, while the Queen of Pentacles is a methodical thinker. The impression I get is that this man is arrogant. He feels that he is smarter than her, a quick thinker, and that she plods along: hence Temperance, he feels she is okay, but he’s more attracted to someone who can be mentally lively and challenge his ideas. If she wants to attract this man, she needs to be like him, the Page of Swords, quick to outsmart and come up with some clever comment.

the spread about my friend with 7CUPS-DEVIL-2SWORDS, was a success…She really felt exactly as we predicted( because she never knew about this spread)
I am really excited.
I would like to tell you another spread I made about our teacher in astrology school.A friend of mine asked about why he is in the relationship with this woman he is..And we had STAR-2PENTACLES-6SWORDS.
hope-vacillation-rational thinking to overcome problems. As we can see he wants a brighter future yet not knowing how to handle probably his finances and not finding his answers to that.I guess it because of the two of pentacles..because it could be an other vacilation about himself not being so sure..
after we pulled about his girlfriend for him and she had 7cups-3pentacles-High priestess..maybe there is a problem here about not knowing clear her future with him..and try to make her dream come true however she can not yet achieve it..
What would you think my dear?

The first thing I’d like to mention is that it isn’t ethical to ask tarot questions about people you know out of curiosity. It’s okay to ask about people you’re in relationship with, or who’s actions directly affect your life, but to ask about your astrology teacher’s romantic life isn’t your business. If this friend of yours is wanting a relationship with him, that might be acceptable, but to use tarot for mere curiosity because you and your friend are questioning his choice of romantic partner is not what tarot should be used for.
I’d like to hear your reason behind making this enquiry before helping you out with an interpretation. I’m sure you understand.

Hello Toni
I think I have the interpretation for my friend’s ex sex lover. It’s the 5cups-high priestess-devil spread. He may felt blocked to any emotional attachment because of a bad atmosphere somewhere in his life and only wanted to have sex with her( because his mother does not live and his father us far away,he lives with his brother..so I don’t think that the five of cups means a bad atmosphere at home..)
The other spread of page of swords temperance-queen of pentacles is more difficult..
LikeLike
Hi Stelios,
The 5 of Cups is a complex card. Yes, it can mean a weird atmosphere, but it’s also that feeling you get around someone that they want to emotionally smother you. It’s a very close emotional bond between two people.
The key you have told me heer is that his mother has died.
The High Priestess is the unknown, as if there is something there that you cannot reach.
So, we have his close connection to his mother, because the 5 of cups can also mean a haunting, feeling someone’s emotions when they are not physically there.
Then we have the Devil, his guilt and sex addiction.
Put these together and it suggests that since his mother’s passing that he’s experienced guilt and shut himself down from feeling such a close bond with anyone again. To feel such a strong connection again would be too painful. The High Priestess is saying he cannot reach it again.
However, these 3 cards also suggest that he did feel very close emotionally to your friend. It may have appeared to be a sexual addiction, but that was the only way he knew how to bond, so the more sex he had with her, the closer he felt. The sex was his way to try and break through the High Priestess, to feel what was on the other side again.
I hope this makes some sense to you.

Hi Dear Toni,
The first spread with 6 pentacles-star-justice was understood.About the next 2 spreads you helped me enough.
Thank you.
Yesterday we did a spread about a woman that think that her husband is cheating on her.He wasnt working till the start of this year. She thinks that he has an affair at his work so we layed out the 3 cards to see if he has an affair.JUDJEMENT-3 PENTACLES-ACE PENTACLES was the answer.
Judgement:Revelation
3 pentacles:craftsmanship (but equality in relationships)
ace pentacles:wisdom (something wich is offered)
In a first eye, I dont know if an affair does exist.Because at the summary of the cards we can see for sure that this man (who hadn’t a job) is working on his job and all that he has to learn to master it.So maybe his personal time is being restrained from his work.
Now,as she thinks , the affair is in his job.In this case the cards show that was a sudden afair, that previous they didnt look with that way one the other..and now they respect one the other and have a serious affair.I think i am close to the first interpretation..but your opinion would more faithful.
In that case he has an affair she took 3 cards to see how he sees the afair .And she pulled 3 CUPS-KNIGHT WANDS-4 WANDS.In this case he is inspired by the woman, feeling safe and in home with her..And would like to stay with her(3 cups)..I think that this is an illusion
LikeLike
Hi Stelios,
In a nutshell, I don’t think her husband is cheating from these cards.
JUDJEMENT-3 PENTACLES-ACE PENTACLES you have interpretted really well. Judgement is about waking up to new things, and the 3 Pentacles is about becoming a master, so this guy is really learning the skills for his new job. The ace of pentacles backs this up. He wants the money, and maybe even to gain another qualification or certificate. He wants to do well.
3 CUPS-KNIGHT WANDS-4 WANDS.Yes, these cards may mean that he’s having a fantasy, but I see them rather differently. 3 cups says that he’s married. This is what he would tell any woman apart from his wife, even if he finds the other woman attractive. The knight of wands says that he enjoys phoning his wife, talking to her. The 4 of wands says that he enjoys his home life. Overall he’d much rather be with his wife, and make her proud of him by working hard.
What made her suspicious in the first place?

Hi Stelios,
Thanks you for explaining your situation with this teacher. I’m sure you understand why I have to use caution in these matters.
Your question was ‘Why is he in a realtionship with this person?’ STAR-2PENTACLES-6SWORDS What you say may be accurate, but I would interpret them slightly differently. We’re relating these cards to this specific question. The Star card is hope, while the 2 pentacles is, indeed, vacillation, but the final card is the 6 swords which means analysis. Put them together and it could mean that he is hoping, one day, to work this woman out. He thinks he has, but then she does something that changes his mind. (2 pentacles) So he goes back to analysing her, and watching.
Fascination and an ability to NOT work someone else out is often what keeps a relationship going. They keep intriguing us, which keeps us interested.
It can also be that he’s hopeful that one day the realtionship will become easier, but the star car suggests that he isn’t ready to give up on this relationship yet.
The cards you took for her, 7cups-3pentacles-High priestess, show much more uncertainty. 7 cups says that she is a dreamer, yet the 3 pentacles says that she likes to feel in control, to feel that she knows things. Then the High Priestess says that she can’t access her dreams, and that true self-control and a sense of achievement is beyond her. She will feel uncertain regarding her relationship, unsure if he is the person who can make her dreams come true and look after her.
He is far more analytical than she is, which is maybe why he studies astrology. She is more intuitive, and yet doesn’t trust her intuition. They both try to learn from each other. He by studying how she behaves, and she by wanting to be as intellectual as him. It sounds missmatched, and yet they are both there for their own karmic purpose.

I don’t know if tarot can show health issues because I have since one and a half month a problem with my stomach.it was 6 swords empress 2 pentacles. As empress is our nature and 2 is vacilation maybe we can see that it’s. Not pathological.I don’t know of caurse about the six swords
LikeLike
Hi Stelios,
Sorry to take so long to get back to you!
Is your stomach any better now?
I do interpret tarot for health issues. The 6 of swords is anxiety, a sort of nagging worry. The Empress is nature and the 2 of pentacles literally ups-and-down. If we relate this to the stomach we can say that something is ‘worrying’ your stomach. It may be stress, but with the Empress next to it, I’d see it as something natural, a food. Add the 2 of pentacles and it looks as if something is aggravating your stomach and creating stomach cramps or billiousness (sickness – will I be sick or won’t I)
Most of us are tolerant of natural foods, but the 6 swords also means analysis, so there may be something in the food that doesn’t agree with you. This is either a food intolerance, or a chemical that has been sprayed on the crops. Lastly, because the 6 of swords also relates to water, it could be seafood or river caught food that is creating the upset.
Your first step should be to eat only organic food that has not been sprayed with chemicals. This includes ensuring that any seafood/river food has been caught in uncontaminated waters. If this doesn’t create any improvement after a few weeks, then move on to explore food intolerances.
The spread also says that if you stress while eating your stomach will be affected. The remedy for this can be as simple as not watching TV, or sitting at your computer while eating. Keep calm and enjoy good conversation.
Let me know if this helps,
Toni

So i opened this three cards because i didnt use them till now.
My name is Sofia..Hi to all
I had a ”relationship” not exactly normal and with love with a person that hunts me for some years..I dont want him but something pushes me to him even i dont like anything..Its so weird..I couldnt understand it for years. No i want to make my life different so i took 3 cards to day what i must do with that person and i had the death, the strength, and the justice cards.I suppose that they are saying me to leave the situation , to take self control and this is karmic. Its probably something karmic with the person?
I again took three cards to give me the way i shoul take him and i took knight of cups,5 of cups and star.I didnt understand anything especially from the last spread.
I wish you could help me.

Hi Sofia,
I think that your interpretation of the first three cards is absolutely correct. Death says to end it, Strength says to be restrained and keep away, and Justice says that this will be good for you karmically.
The second spread implies that you have a very strong bond with this person, an dpossibly a secret desire for them to be in your life. They haunt you and fill your emotions, so until they are gone from your life it will be very difficult to let anyone in completely.
The knight of Cups is the lover who pops back into our life when they want to. They then leave again, but will always return another day. The 5 of cups is this strong emotional hold they have over you, while the Star card says that when you are with them you feel hopeful that they might stay, because having them close feels so powerful and overwhelming.
Until you shake off their influence and break from them completely, it will be very difficult for you to move on and find fullfillment with someone who truly wishes to be in your life full time.
I hope this helps,
Toni

Toni,I would like to ask you about the cover cards role..as we have to your spread and Celtic cross..the first card is as while the cover could be something from us or outside? Like the sun covered by devil , something that makes me feel guilt about my bliss, that could be from me or someone else? And vice versa devil covered by sun,I feel guilt but I have the support to feel the bliss?

So glad to hear that your stomach issue is not organic and that you’re getting appropriate help.
I think that you’re partly correct with your interpretation of the Fool, 8 Swords and Lovers. The Fool is, indeed, a free spirit, however, the 8 of SWords is not free at all. With the 8 of Swords we find someone who finds it very difficult to speak up for themself, and very often they will laugh and smile to cover their inner pain. The Lovers is discrimination, and decision making, so it appears that this free spirited person was not permitted to speak up and make their own decisions. It means that either this person was a child, or that they were living in a society in which they were suppressed and not permitted to make decisions based on what they truly felt in their heart.
With the covered cards I see the top card bearing down and influencing the bottom card. How they interact depends very much on the two cards involved. You are correct with your example, that the Devil crossing the Sun card would show someone feeling guilty about their bliss. Perhaps they are too attached to it and fear change, or perhaps they are happy while others around them are sad. With the reverse, The Sun crossing the Devil would show someone rising above feelings of guilt and old habits, which makes them happy. However, the Devil is there, showing that the bliss can easily be upset by old habits.

Hello Toni,I think I can interpretate the three cards for the cause of my problem.5C 2W HANGED MAN,it is starting over the emotional bonds with others that I am following their energy and not mine and I am dominated by them leaving myself waiting something from them to rescue me..so a little bit afraid and without self worth I am sinking my self and let him to others..now he is reacting..
i think it’s a meaningful interpretation.
Now I asked how the problem will go ( the health issue) as it’s not organic.I had Wheel High Priestess 6W
The wheel is a continuous situation so we will have the ups and downs..the priestess is the unknown and six of wands victory so maybe the solution will come to an unexpected way and as the priestess is unconscious maybe I can find the solution intuitivly. For this I asked what I have to do and had Star 10Sw 7W..The star says to let go of old stuff and hope for a brighter future..this is what we want..the 10 swords although shows us a difficulty of achieving this as it is depression and then the 7 wands is high energy achievement beauty..is the way of feeling pretty helps?

Toni dear, hello again,
I know you are busy yet but I have to give one spread again I can not fully understand.I asked what is the fear that tortures my unconscious.I got 10 swords-hermit-sun and clarify card for the 10 swords the moon .. I can not understand what frightens my unconscious.

Hi Stelios,
I think you’re on the right track with your previous interpretations.
This spread goes deeply into the unconscious. The ten of swords is a type of depression that comes and goes. I closely associate it with ‘karmic depression’ meaning that situations trigger us to feel sad and we truly don’t know the cause because they are locked in early childhood or past lives.
The hermit is all about keeping secrets, so this shows how deeply these feelings are bottled up. It also goes with what you were saying previously, about holding onto other people’s secrets.
The Sun is bliss, but you’ll note how it’s coming after the Hermit, as if bottling these things up keeps you outwardly happy, yet inwardly tortured.
The Moon card is fear, and here it can mean that fear of these dark phases is making things worse. It can also mean that fear of moving away from that darkness brings in the Hermit and wanting to keep things to yourself.
The question to ask is, why is there a need to keep these things secret? What dreadful thing do you fear happening if you let them out?

Hi Stelios,
I think what you say on this spread is good.
Don’t forget that the Hermit is ‘the seaker on the path’ and that sometimes, if one is studying the esoteric arts, it isn’t wise to openly (the world) express these secrets (the Hermit) to everyone we care for.
I asked you to take these cards to enquire as to what dreadful thing you feared might happen if you opened up, so here we could interpret these cards as fear of persecution. This could well be a deeply hidden fear from a past life.
Remember, your 10 of swords type of ‘depression’, is a karmic depression, meaning that we cannot recall the cause or know the trigger because it stems from past life trauma.
It could be that you are currently facing difficulties due to a past life crisis.

But I want to ask about the numerology side of the cards and the causal and physical world. You wrote that till five nothing is manifest to the physical..This means that till hierophant, from one to five or to the devil till eleven to fifteen or till the fives of the minor suits nothing is expressed to the physical.? It’s thoughts or wishes?

Hi Stelios,
The numbers are, indeed, difficult to relate to as we are so used to connecting mostly with the physical world.
Think of number 5 as a bridge between the unconscious and the conscious. For example, the Empress at number 3 is our nature, and we often express this in an entirely unconscious manner. This does not mean that we are not using it, or that it does nothing, but that we are not consciously choosing to create it.
All numbers, and therefore all of the cards, have an element of activity, but some activity is more in our control than other activity.
Another example would be the Hanged Man, and his obvious lack of activity. Yet, we may have chosen to place ourselves in this suspended state of waiting, therefore there was some initial action taken.
I hope this brings some clarity,
Toni

The star asks to let go of the old stuff and hope for a new brighter life and the seven wands to express my charismas my beauty,to make me feel beautiful and do things for my self. The ten swords when we are asking of a helping spread how is it’s interpretation except of the depression and the karmic triggering? I mean what as a card advises us to do?
LikeLike
Hi Stelios,
I think with the spread you have of star 10sw 7wa, the Star card is saying that each time you experience the ‘depression’ that you let it go. This means to be fully aware of it, and acknowledge its presence, but then to actively release it. Very often the Star cards represents times when it’s good to cry, to release the emotion rather than bottling it up. She is empting the water, which represents the emotions. You’ll notice that the 7 Wands is a 7, and the Star is 17, so the cards sit on the same vibration. One shows the release in order to attain the other.
I have known some people who, when they experience these dark phases represented by the 10 swords, actively choose to embrace the sadness for a while by playing sad music, or taking a few minutes to cry in private. They say that these rituals help them. They acknowledge the sadness, work with it for a while, and then go about their business again.

Hello dear Toni,
when you say to release it,you mean to talk about how I feel with the symptoms? Because it’s not only a feeling..it has bodily affects as heart goes speeder and stomach and feeling cold and warm immediately and an anguish..as I have checked and heart and stomach no-one has any organic problem..The release is to speak about then when it comes? Because it is difficult at this time to go out to business .
I have asked whow it will go as I wrote you and had the wheel the priestess 6wands..which is your opinion about this? It will pass after the continuous situation of the wheel?

What you’re describing sounds very much like an anxiety attack. Try taking some of the Healing Herbs 5 flower remedy which is very good for helping with anxiety. https://www.healingherbsdirect.co.uk/ It’s the same as Bach Flower remedy Rescue Remedy which is also avaiable in pastilles http://www.nelsonsnaturalworld.com/en-gb/uk/our-brands/rescue-remedy/products?p=RESCUE-PLUS
With anxiety attacks fresh air helps too.
With your reading the Priestess says that the cause is unknown, while the wheel says that it’s ongoing. However, the 6 wands speaks of friendship, which suggests it may be triggered by lack of trust in others and a need to get to know people in order to build trust.
Have you noticed a pattern of when these symptoms occur? Duting a particular activity or when speaking with anyone in particular?

For this reason I decided to open a spread about my sister who asked if she will pass the last lesson she has to , to take her certificate. She will have the test on 23 and asked if she will pass this lesson. We pulled Tower-9 Wands-Justice.This lesson has shattered her ego😛 is the third time she goes for it..Maybe she is fearing a new failure, except from the previous failures. Now the nine of wands is physical and inner strength..So she is like she is trying not to crack out and try hard this time as it the last lesson. Finally with Justice we have a karmic theme over here saying that she has to be strong and try it, puting her own effort (wands).I get the feeling that she will pass if she study a lot and unfortunately..really a lot..but this is a general and logical answer to give to someone. It’s like ” what an answer, I know this,I asked the card. for something like yes you will pass or no , it is not your time”
What’s your opinion dear Toni?
Do you think she will succeed?

I think you have judged your sister’s spread well. The Tower is also anxiety. All of the shocks of failing this test in the past have impacted her, and so she’s feeling fragile. The 9 of Wands does, indeed, talk about inner strength, but it also talks about mental strength, and a need to keep the mind alert. Justice implies that she will pass, as long as she doesn’t anticipate being put down again by failure.
The other thing to take into consdieration with this type of question, is what is she studying? One or more of the cards might be referring to the subject she is studying, and therefore offer insight into how best to pass the test.

Or she will fail?

Hi Stelios,
I think that your assessment on your friend’s spread is excellent. Indeed, right now she is at the phase of the High Priestess, not knowing how she will achieve her goal. Overall the spread suggests that she will succeed, so all she can do for now is meditate on how to acess the information hidden in the High Priestess.
With a reading like this I would always take three cards to try and see what is hidden in the High Priestess. Sometimes we can gain glimpses of what needs to be done, and at other times the High Priestess does not want her secrets to be known.

Hi Stelios,
This is a difficult one to answer as I’m not medically trained and do not know the precise location of your mother’s pain. Never forget that it is always advisable to consult a doctor if you have medical concerns, that should always be your first choice.
In general your mother’s spread implies anxiety. I wonder if she’s eating foods she knows disagree with her, or if she’s rushing meals in order to get on with things she enjoys.
The 8 of cups is about looking forwards to a great adventure, and taking a risk in life. At the end of the spread we have the 9 of cups, the happy event that we’re going towards, yet in the centre we have the moon, fear and anxiety. This would suggest that she suffers from anxiety over whether or not she will get to the exciting event in time.
The 9 of cups also refers to wining and dining in good company, so she may well be eating too fast in order to speak while sharing a meal with others.
Are you certain that her pain is coming from the stomach?

Hi Stelios,
The Magician is a complex card, symbolsing new beginnings and an ability to start new projects. However, in every spread drawn we must learn to see each card afresh and interpret it as it is before us in that moment. The lovers suggests that your friend was trying to make a decision concerning your relationship/friendship. Followed by the Magician reversed it implies that she felt the magic had gone out of what you had. The King of Batons reversed backs this up. Reversed he’s lost his sparkle.
So, she simply felt that something was missing, or had changed.

Hi Stelios,
With a reading like this you need to push a little further with an additional 3 cards. To my mind this spread indicates the weather/season when they will meet, but not how many years away.
I would read the Tower as lightning, because the 10 swords is bleak, so this implies lightning followed by fog, so probably a winter’s day. The 2 cups is falling in love. If you put these things together it could mean that they meet at a bonfire party (the tower becomes the falling bonfire and the 10 swords the smoke from the fire)
Or, it could a storm at night, then the heat of the morning creates the mist and then they meet. But there is no event or situation mentioned if you read them like this, and I doubt your friend is waiting outside after a storm for a man to appear from the mist.
I think this question needs further exploration.

Toni with the fool covered by temperance,we have an individual as a free spirit following his instincts and moving away, but he is feeling inside uncomfortable with this side of himself? As temperance pretending that everything’s ok even if it doesn’t feel ok? And respectively with Chariot covered by Temperance?
LikeLike
Hi Stelios,
You’re on the right track.
Temperance is all about those times when we say that we’re feeling okay, but don’t feel 100% okay on the inside. It’s the mask that we all wear from time to time, just to get through until we do truly feel okay again.
Temperance is depicted ‘balancing’ water between two urns. Water symbolises the emotions. If we need to balance the emotions, then they are not in balance.
Often the card covering Temperance symbolises what the questioner believes will make them feel 100& okay. So, covered by the Fool, suggests that a sense of freedom would make everything okay.
The covering card can also symbolise getting on with something despite not feeling 100% okay.
It can also mean both things at once, so with the Fool, a sense of freedom and doing one’s own thing will make the questioner feel more balanced inside.

Hello,Toni
Could you please explain a more practical side of the cards Knight of Batons and Knight of Swords? As interpretated in a love or in a work theme?
And the Knight of Cups suggests a lover that will come and go?
LikeLike
Hi Ian,
The Knight of Batons is all about messages which are not a face to face greeting. He can therefore represent a spark of inspiration, a letter, an email, a text message, a phone call etc.. This interpretation is easy to see for both work and romantic themes. When the Knight of Batons is reversed the message is not getting through. It’s about waiting for that flash of inspiration, or the etxt message etc. In both work and love, the reversed card is very frustrating, but more disappointing when love is involved. He/she didn’t text, didn’t phone back and so on.
The knight of Swords is all about determination and being on a mission to obtain a goal, achieve something or fight for a cause. In work it’s a very useful card, because it represents someone who’s determined to succceed, or fight for worker’s rights. In romance the card starts to feel a little unsavoury, because someone who is so determined to win someone’s love isn’t necessarily taking the other person’s feelings into consideration. When reversed it represents a temporary lack of energy to continue pushing so hard. With work this is burn out, while with romance there’s a sense of feeling beaten and unable to win someone back. I say win someone back, because when reversed the card shows itself more often in broken relationships rather than new ones.
Yes, the Knight of Cups does represent the lover who comes and goes, but it’s more complex than that and also depicts foreign travel and people with foreign blood. It’s also people who inpsire us, artistic types and people who follow their own path in life. As a lover this card can be unreliable, in work it’s very exciting, offering opportunities to meet new people from many different cultures.
I hope this helps your understanding of the knights,
Toni

Hi Sofia,
Yes, unfortunately the Ace of swords and ace of coins are not romantic, but very practical.
The spread you drew for romance is slightly hopeful becasue it suggests that this other girl lured him away from you. This means that he may not be satisfied with her for very long.
The Page of Wands is playful and the fun of a new romance, but then we have the four of cups, which is rejection. The last card, the five of swords, is a card of persuasion, and of someone making us believe that their idea is better than ours. Hence I feel that this girl persuaded him to leave you and go with her.
The hopefulness is that if you were to bump into him, that seeing you looking so pretty (page of wands) that he might be tempted to leave her for you.

Oh dear, Ian, it sounds like you have a learning overload!
The Page of Pentacles is a very indecisive fellow. In romance he really can’t make up his mind, and is always uncertain, especially when there are romantic options. Should I go out with him/her, or not? Should I take a risk and ask them out? Even once in a relationship they are still unsure if they made the correct choice. Their partner will always be wondering if they truly wish to be with them or not.

Hi Ian,
In a work situation the 10 of Coins often represents a family run business, with the questioner working alongside their husband or wife. It also represents a business that has family values and traditions at its core, and because it refers to inheritence and what we gain from our ancestors, it can also symbolise people who work with inheritences and doctors who work with genetics. It also symbolsies the ‘grown up’ family home (not a small starter home) so real estate and large properties com eunder this card as well. You’ll need to see which cards are close by to judge precisely what it is referring to.
In romance it refers to family traditions. Often couples don’t get together because their families are culturally so very different. It shows whether or not the two people in love have the same core values. It also often means that one person in the romance is looking for a partner who holds the same values as their father (head of the family). For a woman it means she has chosen a man who is like her father, often in looks as well. These family memebers don’t have to be living in order for us to unconsciously select someone who fits in with our ancestral and genetic traits.

Would you help in a love spread if we had pivot point the ace of swords and covering card the ace of coins?

Hi Stelios,
Both of these cards are Aces, so firstly you must think of new beginnings. The Ace of Swords represents trust, honesty and integrity, and the Ace of Coins represents knowledge and wisdom. This combination would suggest that one person is preceiving the other as trustworthy, and that they have facts or information to back this up. This information may have come from purely observing the other person, and having a deep sense that they are honourable.
Not very romantic, but good for the start of a trusting relationship.

This is a strange combination. The Page of Batons and 8 of batons together are fun and exciting, showing that someone is acting child-like and sexy. There’s an innocent flirt going on here. However, the King of Swords is very austere, almost as if someone has come along and told her off. Again we have the suggestion of darkness (King of Swords) and it could represent the dark winter evenings stopping playful summer fun. For timing an event, I’d say winter, as batons are nature and the law of nature (King of swords) stops nature creating bright colours and being joyful.

the vice versa?when one of these 2 cards is second in row?devil and then emperor or empress?
Oh please heeeelp..

Hi Sofia,
The Devil is all about habit. With The Emperor or Empress it symbolises those things which we cling to in a habitual way that we believe are part of our nature (Empress) or add to our sense of I am (Emperor)
These can be very simple habits, such as how we have our hair. Habitually having my hair styled like this gives me a sense of identity (Emperor) Therefore if you had your hair cut differently, that strong sense of I am, might well be damaged.
The same goes for the Empress. We say, ‘it’s in my nature to be like this’ yet the Devil is suggesting that it’s a tempting habit and not a trait that is true to our nature.
As I said, the Devil does not have to represent something truly, horribly bad. But he can represent excuses we make to ourself for not letting go of certain behavioural patterns.

Hi Stelios,
The thing to remember is that Justice is not always about ‘bad’ karma, it just is karma. And karma can be good as well.
The sun card does show that you and this person were very happy, then the fool called one of you to want to be free and explore themselves away from the relationship. Justice means that you were destined to meet again, because you had such a strong bond together.
This spread implies the possibility of a family relationship. Sun – happy family Fool – a natural need to venture into the world and indivduate. Justice – you’ll meet again.
It could also be a couple, where one person goes off to seek their fortune.
The spread does imply that the couple never met again in the previous life, which is why they are destined to meet again.
Because you drew all major cards it implies that this relationship is very important.

Hi Ian,
The Knight of Pentacles likes to have a plan for life, a road mapped out. In relationships this is the type of person who wants to create set stages of achievement. We meet, we buy a house, once we have paid off half the house, we marry, we work and save, then we can have a child. You get the picture. Unfortunately with this type they often forget to live for the now, and they refuse to get married until x or y has happened, which makes their romantic partner very frustrated…or abandon them!

Sofia, this certainly isn’t failure. As you say, it happens to all of us. Very often, when doing a reading for ourself, we’ll unconsciously draw the cards we want to see. Usually the cards aren’t meant for someone else, and the best thing we can do is to step back for a while, or ask someone else to do a reading for us.
Sometimes the good cards we see when we’re in a bad mood are our unconscious shwoing how we would like things to be.

Hi Sofia,
The 6 of wands is all about friendship, two individuals working together. Therefore any victory is only achieved by having that other person in your life.
e.g. One man writes the lyrics and the other the music. Together they have a hit song. One without the other would not have been so successful.
The 7 of wands is individual. It is one person shining in their own light. They do not need an-other to gain success.

Hi Stelios,
By the time I’ve finished answering you guys I’ll have enough material for a whole new book! LOL
Okay, here goes:
The 7 of Swords is associated with the 3 of Swords reversed. At the 3 of swords reversed we feel anger, jealousy or another negative emotion, but we are suppressing it, therefore it is never expressed. This negative emotion is therefore hidden from the person it should be directed towards. Often the indiviual keeps quiet because they know they cannot win an argument against the person, or they fear retribution or even physical assault.
At some time in their future the 7 of swords will appear, showing that this suppressed negative feeling can be dealt with. In the 7 swords there is always a third person involved, a go-between. Sometimes this go-between is a friend, but more often a laywer. This go-between brings new information to the situation, so that the 3 of swords reversed person can understand why the other person acted as they did towards them. The go-between also acts as someone who communicates with the opposition on their behalf, and can express their anger for them in a non-aggressive manner.
Let me give you an example:
A girl sees her boyfriend hugging another girl. She feels jealous (3 swords), but she does not express this to her boyfriend (3 swords rev) For weeks she broods over this. One day she bumps into a mutual friend who asks if she saw her boyfriend’s sister when she was in town for only a few hours. This friend is now the go-between of the 7 swords. She has brought fresh information to the situation. This removes the girl’s jealousy. The boyfriend had already told her that his sister would be passing through town and that they didn’t always get on well together, so it was best that he meet her alone. The girlfriend had forgotten this, her jealousy making her forget.
The 3 of coins is the master craftsman who creates something exceptional. It also rules teaching and study.
The 8 of coins is displaying what we made at the 3 of coins, or using the knowledge we acquired to gain a good working reputation.

Dear Toni,
I think that in a specific case I am always wrong or mean with a person.
I pulled knight batons- 8 coins- 3 swords.
the knight is right..the three about everything wich is not love is right…but the eight has nothing in this case of behaviour to do with good reputation…could you help for the eight in a behaviour type?
LikeLike
Hi Stelios,
In this spread the knight batons is your intuition, and yes, the 3 swords is not love.
The 8 of coins can represent you or the other person. If it’s the other person then it means that they always want to be right and won’t step down. If it’s you then it’s your pride, knowing that you have to stand strong against this person so that they’re not able to put you down. You are trying to preserve your reputation.

Yea interesting..this is right.
but with the meaning of intuition what do we mean?

Hi Stelios,
The Knight of Batons brings messages which are not face to face (letters, emails, texts etc)
The other type of message is a message from the gods or our from our own psyche, hence it can be intuition.

Hello Toni,
I have to ask and an other important clarification.
When we open the 3 cards spread, and we pull a major and a minor card, all the books and writers inform that the major have more influence to the matter and will ”eat’ the minor, despite if the minor is our react to the act of the major.
For example if we have a difficult major with a positive minor, the minor don’t have so much strength..And the opposite..if we have a positive major and a difficult minor.Which is your practical version of our everyday lives with the major and minor influence together?
LikeLike
Hi Ian,
I don’t know which tarot books you’ve been reading but I’ve never heard of the major cards ‘eating’ the minor cards! Munch, munch!
No, I simply don’t believe this idea and have never seen anything so ridiculous happening in practise. Sure, the major cards are important and hold weight during a reading, but a simple little major card is often showing the work needed to ensure the energy of the major cards comes to fruition.
It always depends on the two cards in question, the type of question being asked and the whole tone of the reading. One card really cannot negate another card, they all have power. After all, if the major card was negating the minor card, why would tarot bother to show us this card in the first place if it has no meaning or power within the reading?

Toni I would like to ask you the difference of the interpretation,if we have World- Queen Of Coins
and Queen Of Coins- World. If this person relates to us,or an other person in our life.

Hi Stelios,
With any court card drawn it can refer to the questioner, or someone in the questioner’s life. Or, both! I have seen one court card refer to several people at once. Often it’s different character traits of the one card that each individual has.
World-Queen of Coins- Going out into the world makes this person prosperous and succesful.
Queen of Coins – World – This person feels that they cannot go out into the world (travel – create a larger circle of friends – etc.) until they have established themself as successful and someone worth knowing. They also feel they require prosperity.

Hello Toni,
Thank you very much for your answers. As I saw to you response in Sofia’s question, about chariot and seven of wands, you see the major as the symbolic part and minor how it comes out to the world?
LikeLike
Hi Stelios,
Yes, the Major cards are symbolic.
In reading, if a questioner gets lots of Major Cards, then something major is shifting in their life. There are two ways this works.
1) Something big happens and the person has to re-evaluate their life in order to cope and come to terms with this huge change. e.g. a parent dies.
2) A huge shift takes places within the individual. Call it a mid-life crisis, a leaving school having to work crisis, a waking up one morning and needing to do something different with your life crisis…you get the picture. In order to fullfil this internal need, the person must change their external world.
In both instances, nothing actually takes place. This is a time of re-assimulation, of deep thinking. Most readings with a lot of major cards are psychological readings, more than ‘this happens, then that happens,’ readings.
With one or two major cards, we need to read these as the internal process.
Of course, ALL cards can be read at a physical level. Many times I’ve seen the chariot represent someone’s shiny new car, and even spoilt one woman’s birthday surprise by saying, ‘I see a new car for you.’ She cheered, and replied, ‘Yay! My husband IS going to get me one for my birthday.’ And very nice it was too! She showed me when she next visited.

I would like to have a love interpretation for the ace of coins , please, and 4 of coins. Not together in a. Spread. As individual cards.

Hi Stelios,
The only spread I’ve created for my new book is the three card spread, and that has been around for years, so nothing new
In a love spread:
Ace of coins means that the questioner is always looking to what they will gain from the relationship. It isn’t romantic. Sometimes this card comes up when two people share joint knowledge about a specialised subject, and their romance takes place in libraries and research. Other times it is ‘what money does this person bring to the relationship?’ The wisdom or wealth that the questioner is seeking can also be fertility, social standing and personal understanding.
4 of coins brings romance to a financial security level, and, especially for woman, the idea that the man will always look after them. It’s a very practical type of ramnce, and I have seen 4 of coins associated with arranged marriages.

Hello Dear Toni,
I made a spread of my own and I would like your help to interpretate.
This spread was made for a friend who would like to see the emotions a boy has for her,and how he will continue their ” afair”. They don’t have a committed relationship because of the boy.He didint make in the past committed relationships and now that she is dissatisfied with this,he is trying to change his behaviour, because he thinks that she is a good girl to try. They don’t live in the same town, but he texts her once a day and has been more cute than he was before. But yet. not at the point she wants him. Here are the cards we pulled to the new spread.
Pivot Point: High Priestess, covered by Page of Cups.( This may mean that he didn’t experience a comitted relationship, and doesnt know how to achieve it,but he is willing to give a try because of the page cups)
Mental state:5 of swords( this may mean that he doesn’t feel alright for this try,but he is persuaded that he is wrong for his behaviour, and she is more right about her beliefs for a comitted relationship)
Past:Death ( This is maybe his changed personality, trying to see it more sirious than the past)
Future:King of Swords ( Maybe even by his change he will not be ready to share emotions ,as the king is not so emotionally envolved to the situation)
Future Mental state : 2 cups ( he will be attracted to her but still by his way as he is the king of swords before)
Future physical state: Knight of cups ( he will come and go showing excitement once, but not be committed to her as he is following his way)
Future Conclusion: Queen of Pentacles covered by Page of Swords: She will still want a long term relationship but he will still try to find his self in all this change and not be so honest about what he shows.
Is this a good interpretation dear? In a hole theme he wants her but he is trying to be something else and even he will be there he will not pass to a serious relationship.
What’s your insight? Do you think I did it well?
LikeLike
Hi Stelios,
I think you’ve done extremely well!
I’ll just add a few notes.
High Priestess, covered by Page of Cups = he wants to be faithful and loyal, but doesn’t know how to be.
Mental state:5 of swords = persuasion – perhaps she or someone else has persuaded him to try harder (as she’s a good girl) It’s also a card of changing your own beliefs, so he IS trying!
Past:Death = Yes, something ended for him. It could be that he felt her take her love away when he couldn’t commit.
Future:King of Swords = He still wants to control the situation, he’s playing by his rules, or maybe this is her, playing by her own strict rules of what she wants from romance.
Future Mental state : 2 cups = he has the ability to make her feel loved and attractive
Future physical state: Knight of cups = You are so right! He’s a very erratic lover, there and then not there.
Future Conclusion: Queen of Pentacles covered by Page of Swords: = She is trying to stay in control (of herself and her pride) but he will continue to mess her about.
He sure is exciting, but it doesn’t look like he’s able to commit.

I would like when you have time , to give an idea about Justice Card as we experience it in the mental position, and as we experience it to the physical positions. As please and for High priestess menttal or physical.

Hi Stelios,
Justice can mean karma, but also man’s justice (the law)
In the mental level it’s either believing in the karma of the situation, or believing that the law is on your side.
At the physical level it’s either meeting someone you feel karmically connected to, as if you were meant to meet, or that the law has proved to be on your side.
The high priestess is the unknown.
At the mental level she truly does represent things that we do not know. It can make us feel quite lost.
At a physical level she represents things that we do not know, but that we CAN find the answers to in the physical world e.g. a document may give us previosuly unknown information.
At BOTH levels she can represent conception and the early stages of pregnancy.

I’ve been so busy the past few weeks working with my team finalising my latest novel, Saving Anna, for publication. Phew!
Yes, you’re absolutely correct. In the position of the mind, well, that is where the energy is, in the mind as a thought or desire. At the physical level something is happening which we can see or sense. The physical level shows manifestation.
The Hermit is a very secretative card.
In the mind it represents holding onto those secrets, and observing others, being cautious. It is also secretly planning things which others know nothing about. The plans are not discussed.
At the physical level it is much the same, the main difference being that others will notice how secret, or furtive the Hermit person is being. They will say things like, ‘he’s closed’ or ‘you can never work out what he’s thinking.’
Judgement.
In the mind the person has an intuitive spark of understanding to do with a situation.
At the physical level it is more likely that something they see or hear, sparks the understanding.

If not, then does he have the ability to employ the person who can make his chair? To organise it and make it happen. If his chair stays in the mind, no-one can sit on it, and it serves no useful purpose.

Hi Ian,
Please permit me to clarify the two cards.
The 2 of coins is a minor card and therefore depicts a phase that anyone might go through. It’s general indecision. Dithering. Having one of those days when you can’t settle to anything productive because you’re being indecisive.
The Page of Coins, being a court card, is a personality type and far more likley to show that it’s in someone’s nature to be indecisive. The difference between the two types of indecision is that the Page is all about gambling and looking at what might be lost or gained by taking a particular action. Very often money or time are the things being gambled. For example: If I invest my time in this relationship and it doesn’t pay off, then I have lost time in finding someone more suitable. It’s a risk. For business: If I sell my house then I could start a business, but then I would have to rent. Is it worth the gamble? Will the business make more profit in 10 years than the house would?
Unlike the Lovers, these decisions are not based on what is morally right or wrong, but what one asseses one might win or lose from making the choice.
In practise I’ve seen that the Page of Coins is highly associated with the star sign Libra, esepcially male Librans.
I hope this helps,
Toni

Hi Sofia,
The spread you drew is all about a need to build your self-confidence.
The Moon is fear and the 4 of cups says that it is a fear of rejection. The 10 pentacles says that this fear is due to family upbringing and also whether or not your family will think the job is good enough. You may well reject a job opportunity because your family might not approve.
The overall theme is to apply for jobs that you would enjoy, regardless of what your family think.
You may also be trying to use skills taught by your family, but they are not truly things that you wish to work at.
I would suggest that you draw 3 cards to enquire as to what type of work might suit you best.

I pulled to describe a situation the King of Swords crossed by two of cups.
And the other day the two of cups crossed by the king of swords.
What is the difference?
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
The King of swords is immovable and believes in things being black or white. He’s harsh, sometimes cruel, and not at all romantic.
King of swords crossed by two of cups = an apparantly cold individual presenting as romantic and being in love. (This could be a surprise that this man HAS feelings!)
Two of cups crossed by king of swords = a cold man not believing in romance and love, his affections will be given based on practical matters only.
The king of swords also represents, surgeons, lawyers and other proffessions which require precision, so you’d have to check the whole reading to make sure whether the card is referring to someone’s work, or them as a person.
One example would be – king of swords crossed by two of cups = having romantic feelings towards your medical consultant (Not always a good idea!)

If the Devil is on top of the Emperor then the habit had been overcome, but is threatening to creep in again.
Please don’t think of these as ‘self-damage,’ they simply are, an dare neither good nor bad. None of us are perfect, and we all constantly work towards becoming a more whole human being. The beauty of seeing these combinations in a spread is that it means we are observing these traits and becoming aware of them.

Hi Toni,
I really appreciate all the knowledge you give to us,
You really should write a new book with all this new material!
I would really like it if you explained to me the 8 of Wands in a personal and emotional level. When we have the wands in one love spread, does that give us emotions or personal energy? As you said in the book they are mostly about personal energy rather than emotions the Chalices would mean.
LikeLike
Hi Ian,
Perhaps one day I will write a new tarot book, but at the moment I’m focusing on writing my novels.
Now, you have posed a very good questions. The 8 of wands is very passionate at a personal and emotional level. It is a very busy, busy card, and in a love spread can be full of lust and an overwhelming desire to be with the other person. Someone will be putting a lot of energy into the relationship, wanting to go here and there with their lover. This is truly exciting, and the lover who initiates this may never have felt so enthusiastic about life before meeting the other person. But is it love? Is it emotional?
The cups talk about the softer side of love, but some people experience this as soppy, or even maudlin and non-productive. They do wish to spend all of their time with their lover talking sweet nothings and cuddling…they want to do things together.
The 8 of wands gives spark to a relationship, energy, but if they are with a cups type of person, the cups person may well ask, ‘When will it be just us and not lots of doing other things?’ ‘When will we sit close and say deep and meaningful things to each other?’ The 8 of wands type will reply that they don’t wish to discuss their emotions, they wish to act out their emotions, to be in the now and experience them for real.
Is it unromanitic? Does it lack emotion? No, it is a different way of expressing emotion, but it may not feel particularly deep to someone more sensitive and emotionally demanding.

Hi Sofia,
The 7 of coins with a love theme is about working on the relationship. It’s the conscious effort we put in to ensure that it works. For example, making a note of your lover’s birthday is doing the work to ensure that you remember their birthday.
However, when the 7 coins is reversed it suggests that the relationship is too much like hard work, and that your efforts are not being appreciated.

Hi Toni,
I can not understand this order.
If we begin with devil (bad habit) and then the emperor follows (organized energy) then this order show us that the person is trying to organize their bad habit.
If we begin with emperor and then devil, then it could mean that the person is austere and bad using emperor’s energy and end with devils energy…
Isn’t this logical?
Why is the meaning above?
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
The Emperor is al about a strong sense of identity. In an ideal world it simply is, but more often we need certain things, such as our job, to maintain that strong sense of identity. He’s a good leader and wise father. The Emperor doesn’t fuss or panic, and appears to be perfect.
The Devil is all about guilt and habits. Some habits are good, such as brushing out teeth in the morning.
I wouldn’t say that the Emperor is trying to organise their habit when the devil comes first. It means that their sense of identity is reliant on that habit, such as wearing a suit to work. The habit helps identify them. As the Emperor is predominantly a ‘good’ card, it is most likely a good habit. Other cards in the spread may show that the habit is sinister, but these two cards alone do not suggest that.
When the Emperor comes first it means that the person’s sense of identity is not reliant on anything. But then along comes the devil, creating temptation and the potential to be pulled back into old habits.
Let’s create a story for these two cards. Let’s say that the Emperor is a strong person who runs their own business. (male or female, but we shall use ‘he’ here, to make it easier) The Emperor is strong and just, but along comes the devil, a temptation to fall back into an old habit, or to do something that will make them feel guilty. The two cards alone represent a moral challenge. The devil may not have been acted upon at this point.
This is why a three card spread is always better than just two cards, because with 3 we have action, reaction and outcome. With two we have opposition, and no action.
When the Emperor is reversed he tends to be austere and often a bully, because he is so stubborn and will never change his mind. He tends to be kind an dopen to discussion when upright.
I hope this helps

Toni Hi,
I would like too,to explain the first card and the covering with an example and how they react. And which is more powerful.
LikeLike
Hi Ian,
There’s no easy answer to this question. It all depends on the two cards and the whole context of the reading. Again, the idea of one being more powerful than the other is dependent on the cards and context.
For example is the Magician is covered by the Hanged man, then the Hanged Man becomes more powerful because he’s negating the Magician’s ability to act.
The top card bears down on the bottom card, and either helps or hinders, depending on the cards. In general the top card is more powerful because it is in the way of the other card taking action. However, I have seen readings in which the bottom card is more powerful and the top card merely an irritant or brief phase the questioner is going through.
For example the 3 of coins crossed by the knight of swords reversed. The 3 of coins is skill, craftsmanship and study. The knight of swords reversed is weariness and thinking that you’ll never make it. In the instance the 3 is more powerful because it has more longevity. The weariness will pass, but the skills will remain.

Hello Toni,
It is a little difficult.
We can say that the first card is the psychological identity and the second , an action?
But not only these cards shows the feelings. We have and the card at the mental state, which gives us feeling.
An example i could give you is the Lovers (first), crossed by Temperance(revered, second card)and mental state the Fool.
How would you interpretate this?
LikeLike
Hi Ian,
I don’t think that with tarot we can be as difinitive as that. If we specifically draw a card with the intent that it is to represent someone’s psychological identity, then yes, we can, but otherwise not.
Each card in a reading will show whether it is psychological, action, event etc., by its placement and the whole tone of the reading.
With my spread, as outlined in my book, cards are placed to represent the mental and physical levels, this way we can judge whether what someone desires is likely to take place. Does someone’s inner world match the world that they physically create?
With the spread you have outlined, you have all major cards, which firstly let’s us know that the individual is going through a time when their life may well be all internal, and not a lot happens at the physical level.
The Lovers is about the need to make a choice or decision.
Temperance is about saying you’re okay when you are not okay. You mention that the card is reversed, so the person is already starting to present as not being okay about having to make this choice.
Ultimately this person walks away. The fool wants to be free. This person really doesn’t want to make a choice, to decide one way or the other, because they’d be bluffing and false with whichever choice they madke. So they choose freedom…which in this instance, we could call avoidance.

So in your spread, you are reading the story in the order the cards have been drawn,as i understood now.So how you could continue the story,if you have as 4th card of the past the 10 of wands, and 5th physical level the chariot with 6th card the wheel?
LikeLike
Hi Ian,
Yes, I read the cards as a storyline, through past, present and future.
Card of the past, 10 wands, says that the person takes on too many responsibilities for others. This type of person often finishes someone else’s tasks in order to be efficient.
Physical level, Chariot, says that they have strong pans for life and are highly motivated.
6th card, the future, as the wheel, suggests that this person will continue to do too many tasks that are the responsibilty of others. (Unless the other cards in the spread suggest something different) The wheel is a continuing situation.

and the physical 4 coins,10cups,7 coins,
with last 2 cards, page coins covered by ace cups,

Hi Ian,
I’ve been extremely busy and don’t know if I’ll get through everyone’s comments tonight, but you’re top of the list, so here goes.
I’ll interpret the cards in groups. I’ve already dicussed the 10 wands, chariot and wheel, so in the initial spread we’re left with the lovers, temperance and fool. The lovers talks of the need to make a decision/choice, but temperance keeps saying it’s okay as things are, but the fool wants to walk away. As we saw previously, the wheel says that this is an ongoing situation with no resolution.
Future mental level. empress reversed – knight of cups – 9 cups
Future physical level. 4 coins – 10cups – 7 coins.
With these two lines you need to read each mental card with it’s corresponding physical card, as well as reading left to right in storyline.
So the mental is Empress reversed and it’s physical counterpart is 4 coins = Empress reversed is feeling deflated and uninspired and not following one’s true nature, but the 4 coins says, ‘that’s okay’ because there’s security and stability. (See how the 4 coins also relates back to temperance and that sense of ‘I’m okay’)
Knight cups relates to 10 cups = Knight of cups in mental level has lots of dreams and deires, a thirst to meet new people and travel, but the 10 cups says, ‘I’m happy’, so the dream remains.
9 cups relates to 7 coins = mental level 9 cups says that there are good friends around and good times to be had, but the 7 coins says that there is work to be done, so work may well inhibit socialising.
Reading left to right as a storyline you have:
Future mental level. empress reversed – knight of cups – 9 cups = I don’t follow my true nature but I wish I could because wouldn’t that be fun
Future physical level. 4 coins – 10cups – 7 coins = I have security, I’m reasonably happy and I work hard.
Last 2 cards, page coins covered by ace cups.
These two cards are incredibly important in thsi spread. Page of Coins is a gambler, he risks something without knowing whether it will pay off or not. Time, money, effort are what are gambled. Ace of cups is love. If the question gambles his security (4 coins) then he will find and here this also means self-love and true contentment.
It looks like the risk must be taken, because if a man doesn’t have himself, then he has nothing.

Yes, I think you are partly correct with this.
These two cards suggest the type of man you would like to meet. 9 pentacles represents long term security, and the King of Wands is usually handsome, so you’re looking for an attractive, popular guy, who wants to build a life together and make you feel safe. (If this is the guy you’re having an affair with, then he’s the one who makes you feel safe)

ACE SWORDS = You being honest, with yourself and others.
KNIGHT PENTACLES = making plans for the future

The only thing I would add is that the Knight of pentacles and 10 swords means that you’re making plans even though you are feeling very sad about the situation.

Well, the 7 PENTACTLES is work and then it’s crossed by the MAGICIAN, so if you keep working on your own life someone AMAZING will appear, as if by MAGIC!
But I don’t see in my spread someone new??Do you?
Yes, I do, because you’ll push through the sadness, become busy with your own life, and THEN he appears

Good Evening Toni and guys,
I’ve tried to open the spread to a friend about her and the boy she is flirting (they don’t have a relationship because he can not go forwards after his break up…….god idiot lairs)
We begun with pivot 7 Pentacles crossed by 10 Swords.:Maybe she is putting too much effort, but we have a karmic sadness to not leave her live her dream.
Mental:Justice, she is connected with him, and believing that she will have him one day
Past:Strength, as they had sex , maybe self restrain for not being herself??
Physical:Queen Swords:Her feelings are being rejected
Future:King Cups:This is him, but in what form?He is not in love but he likes her,as friend…?A little help here and now?
Future mental:8 Wands,2 Swords, Queen Cups
Future Physical: Knight Swords,5 Wands,Page Pentacles
Conclusion 9 Swords crossed by 3 Wands
LikeLike
Hi Ian,
I think you’ve interpreted the first cards extremely well.
The card on the past, Strength, might mean that she felt HE was the one being restrained, as if he could not commit emotionally, passionately.
The Queen of Swords is her feeling not only rejected, but unloved and slightly bitter about the situation.
The King of Cups is also the good father figure, so yes, he wants to be kind to her, but this may also be her imagining him as the future father of her children. She has great desire for this man.
Future mental:8 Wands,2 Swords, Queen Cups
Future Physical: Knight Swords,5 Wands,Page Pentacles
8 wands and Knight of swords show that she has great passion for this man and is determined to fight to win him. She’s determined. It can also mean that she will quickly jump into sex with him, believing this will win him over.
2 swords and 5 wands = this is a time of great confusion. She will want to argue with him, but will hold her tongue, and simply bicker and grumble rather than state how she truly feels, about how angry or jealous she is.
Queen of Cups and Page of pentacles = here she is wondering whether he’s worth the effort. She wants to be with him, but is it worth risking her emotions to gain no reward of love?
The conclusion is rather sad. 9 swords crossed by 3 wands suggests that she keeps either having sex with him, or wanting to have sex with him, even though this is an emotionally painful relationship (or non-relationship) There’s an element of her hurting herself emotionally, and knowing that she’s doing this. Tears shed alone, but not in front of him.
The next question for your friend to ask the cards is whether he will ever want to be with her, or is it best to move on?

Good Evening Toni,
I can understand with an easy manner The Emperor first and The Devil second..
The other way is still difficult.
You said ”This is why a three card spread is always better than just two cards, because with 3 we have action, reaction and outcome. With two we have opposition, and no action.”
Action and reaction from who?
I mean, action from the person (the individual whoever he is)reaction from the environment? And the outcome from them?
Example 6swords,3coins,ace coins:I am pushing with analysis to a problem (my action,or individual’s if its not my question). The environment or theme react to my analysis to a problem with a skill,So i feel anxiety about something and someone gives me his skills to understand better a situation, ace in the end?
That’s the way we analyze the 3 cards spread?
ACTION,REACTION,OUTCOME?

Sofia, please don’t think that you’re a bad student. If we could sit in the same room and I could explain things in person it would be so much easier! We could discuss things backwards and forwards, then it would all become clearer.
The action, reaction and outcome, come from many sources. The individual, someone else, the environment..life! Only by judging each reading will you begin to sense where the influences are coming from. There really are no hard and fast rules.
You’ve interpreted the spread that you’ve laid out very well. Your interpretation is accurate and fits.
Let me use very simple interpretations for each card.
6 Swords, analysis, but also struggle. (Let’s imagine that this is a work situation)
3 coins, becoming your own master through study and learning.
Ace Coins – wisdom and wealth – This new learning ends the struggle and analysis, because learning new skills makes it all so much easier. This brings rewards via the Ace of Coins.

I want to express my self positively and it’s very happy to me to do this job.(3 wands).
I am shining in my own light. I do not need an-other to gain success. (7 wands, i copied it from your answer i can not fully understand it.it’s metaphorical)
And at the end i am daydreaming and not doing anything??

Hi Sofia,
It isn’t that you need the simple interpretation, it’s that tarot is simple, and often these key words make far more sense than complicated over-thinking.
You have interpreted the cards very well.
The 3 wands says you are well suited to the job, it comes naturally to you.
You are correct with the 7 wands as well, but let me see if I can clarify it’s interpreatation for you. The Chariot is also a number 7. The Chariot is all about life-path and going forwards in life: this is the symbolic card. Wands are about our true nature. At the 7 wands we are putting the Chariot into practise in our life. We shine because we are following our true path. When we shine others see us as attractive, positive and exciting.
The 7 cups, in this context, does refer to daydreaming and not doing anything. This raises two points.
1) If you are so good at the job you might spend your working day daydreaming of others things, and not pay attention.
2) It might simply be a ‘dream job,’ something you’ve always wanted.

Hi Toni,
To Ian’s spread, the first two cards were Lovers covered by Temperance.
How the meaning would be if it was Temperance covered by Lovers?
I am ok even I don’t feel it,because I have to make a. Decision? It’s not so different.
God,I have problem with crossing cards.
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
You’re right, it isn’t so different.
Lovers covered by Temperance means that you say you’re okay about making the decision, but aren’t really. (this is quite weak, it feels like giving in)
Temperance covered by Lovers means that you don’t truly feel okay, but will make the decision anyway. (This is stronger, it’s about making the decision even when you don’t feel confident)
Interpreting crossed cards just takes a bit of getting used to…with practise and observation.

Sofia, not all good things are meant to last!
You have interpreted the cards extremely well. When I do a 3 card spread for someone and a question arises, such as ‘where did it all go wrong? Why did the Tower come up?’ I ask the questioner to draw 3 more cards to explore the meaning of that one card, to add more depth.
With your second spread, Pope, Chariot, Tower, the Pope is a good listener, and the chariot does show the way forwards, but maybe the Tower is a warning not to be too over confident. OR it could be a physical disaster that occurs and upsets progress.
On a happier note, the Tower does represent buildings that are falling down. I often see this card for people who wish to find the perfect old house to rebuild as a project. They want a building that needs repair. So maybe this person does find what they need!
This is a strong reminder that context is important. Has the questioner posed a question? Do you know what part of their life the cards are referring to? Or is this a ‘cold’ reading in which you have to use all of your intuition and judge for yourself?

Hello Toni,
Would you like to explain me the five of wands in a love theme ?
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
The 5 of Wands is about thoughts that go round and round. Then round and round some more. It’s an internal discussion, going over the same old ground, like a hamster on his wheel. It gets nowhere.
In love this is confusion. Did I say the right thing to them? I wish I’d said soemthing else. We replay the scene over and over again. What did they mean by that text? We can interpret it in so many ways. Round and round it goes.
If the 5 of wands is drawn before a hot date, then it’s practising what we will say, how we will tell them that we like them, how we will ask to see them again. Of course, once the scene plays out in real life, nothing happens as we’d practised it!

Hierophant coverd by death.
mental 2 swords, past 4 cups,physical knight wands,future 5 cups,
future mental queen swords,hermit,ace swords,
physical future, strength,6 cups,chariot
and final justice covered by page swords.
God! Toni , help me a little. It’s difficult.
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
Let’s see if we can make sense of this for you.
Centre: Hierophant coverd by death = This says that he doesn’t really listen to you and pay attention.
mental 2 swords = friction between you, probably because he doesn’t listen.
past 4 cups = a sense of rejection, especially when you wish to be cuddled, or hold hands. He’s not very physically demonstrative.
physical knight wands = Interesting, lots of distant communication such as texts and phone calls, but are you truly speaking to each other at a deep and meaningful level?
future 5 cups = This is the influence he has over you emotionally and the close connection you feel.
future mental queen swords,hermit,ace swords,
physical future, strength,6 cups,chariot
Queen of swords and strength says that when you mentally feel rejected that you physically restrain yourself. This can be by removing sex, or by holding your tongue and not getting angry with him for fear of losing him.
hermit and 6 cups = Hermit at the mental level is very secretive. So which one of you is not opening up to the other? I suspect this may be you as the 6 cups at the physical level suggests flashbacks from the past and a fear of history repeating itself if you become too close.
Ace of Swords and Chariot = At least we see honestly and truth, followed through at a physical level by the chariot suggesting that the relationship continues.
However, with Justice and the page of swords we see a karmic relationship, and mixed messages from both of you. He will mess you about, and you will continue to accept what he offers and not speak up with your truth about what you truly want.
This feels like one of those romances where it’s two moths to the flame, painful, yet compulsive.

I was reading your interview with an other woman, and I want to ask what do we mean modify card
i saw it to your example with strength and devil
please give an other example.
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
Modify simply means ‘to change.’ Think of it as making soup. You add one flavour and it modifies the flavour of the soup. Now, that doesn’t mean that it will completely change it and stop it from being chicken soup, the chicken will still be the main flavour, but you might well catch the black pepper, or garlic as something that is also there.
Let’s take the two of cups and the 4 of cups. The 2 cups is falling in love. On it’s own it’s exciting and romantic. The 4 of cups is about rejection, but it’s also about one person not wanting to touch another person. In romance this is a snub, a kind of ‘don’t touch me now.’ So, if we put the two cards together we can say that this is ‘unrequited love.’ One person has a deep desire to be held by the other, yet they won’t permit it, so the first person experiences yearning, heigtened desire and sadness. It’s still being in love, that hasn’t changed, but it’s flavour is now bitter-sweet.

Oh, yes that’s right, but if it was the other way?
4 cups and then 2 cups?

Hi Sofia,
The 4 of cups is rejection. Mostly it shows whern someone removes tactile expressions of affection, such as holding hands or cuddling. Followed by the 2 of Cups it means that the questioner still believes the other person loves them, and they still love the other person, even though daily physical signs of affection have gone.

Hello Toni,
I made a spread very specific to a love theme between me and a person. So all the cards must interrelate to love.
I have Chariot crossed by 9 swords
mental 8 wands
past 9 pentacles
physical king wands reversed
future devil
mental future, 3 swords,4 swords,10 wands
physical future: 2 wands,star,page wands
final 4 pentacles crossed by hanged man
Would you give a help for specific love relationship between each other?
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
It’s interesting that you say this is for a love theme, because this shows as unrequited love, a love which is not returned as you would like it to be.
I have Chariot crossed by 9 swords
mental 8 wands
past 9 pentacles
physical king wands reversed
future devil
Chariot crossed by 9 swords sets the whole tone of the relationship. The Chariot says that you pursue the relationship, yet the 9 of swords says that it’s emotionally very painful, or even a destructive relationship.
mental 8 wands, says how passionate you are, how much you desire this person.
Past 9 pentacles says that this person used to make you feel very safe and secure.
physical king wands reversed says that you may not think this person is as physically attractive as they sued to be, yet you still desire them.
Fuure the devil is guilt and attachment out of habit. I think the latter is true in this case.
mental future, 3 swords,4 swords,10 wands
physical future: 2 wands,star,page wands
3 swords and 2 wands shows that this relationship make syou feel angry and jealous, yet you permit yourself to be dominated by the otehr person and don’t speak your mind. (Probably because you fear being abandoned)
4 sword and star is great hope that the relationship will recover, especially if it can be led back to the bedroom and quiet times alone together.
10 wands and page wands, says that you are taking full responsibility in this relationship, and always being the one who initiates new things to do. He’s like a child whom you are looking after.
Before I talk about the conclusion cards, the thing to note here is that everything in this reading refers to how you feel and what you want, and that the man doesn’t show himself in the reading. He isn’t acting/doing anything. He’s being extremely passive.
4 pentacles crossed by hanged man says that you’re being extremely patient, waiting for a time when you feel secure and that he can meet you as an equal.
making amny decsions about how it should go, and being very patient in the hope of a positive outcome.

Hi Toni,
How are you?I want your opinion about the spread i made for my health. If you remembered i had the panic attacks on August, and i have started a therapy on September. Now I don’t have panic attacks but some obsessions have stayed a little.Once I went to the specific doctor believing that I had a problem with my stomach (and i hadn’t),after that and in the begging of therapy i thought that i had a problem with my heart, i went to the doctor and i hadn’t.
I realized that all were false ideas. Now i am worrying (a very little bit) with my abdomen. It’s like a twitch under stomach,or sometimes left next to navel. It’s not pain,it’s like something touches me for seconds. My doctor said that it is nothing and to continue my therapy.I think that it is nothing because if it was,i had to see symptoms or pain.Or something. For this i made a spread about my health.
Pivot : 3 Swords crossed by 9 Coins :At the 3 of swords we believe that we are something ”bad”, so I believe that i have something and want to be to close family for security (9 coins).
Mental:5 Wands : These are the circling thoughts that go round and round of my worry
Past: Chariot :This is a healthy card
Physical: 9 Cups:At a physical level i am eating , enjoying and don’t have any problems.
Future:2 Coins: This is my indecisiveness, am I ill or i am not..
Future Mental: 9 Swords , Sun, Queen Wands
This mean that in my head i experience sometimes agony or a depressed feeling but then comes clarity (sun) that is backed up of my realization that i am healthy (queen)
Future Physical: Page Swords, Queen of Cups, Ace of Wands
In the real world maybe i need to be on guard (page , i cant explain him) and speaking or trying to find answers through my mother(queen c)or my doctor, and feel again the fire of my health (ace w).
Final: Knight of Coins crossed by 9 Of Wands:Making Plans for the Future and be Healthy(9wands).
The overall spread suggest that maybe i don’t have any physical problem, but agony in my mind.
Do you agree dear? How was my interpretation?

Hi Stelios,
You’ve interpreted your spread extremely well. I applaude you!
You are right, there are several cards which say that you are a worrier, and that anxiety is the greatest issue. The Page of Swords will always mentally chase a phyisical ache around the body, worrying and over alysing what it might be.
Future Mental: 9 Swords , Sun, Queen Wands This is an interesting line in your reading. The Sun card respresents sunshine, and from sunshine we gain Vitamin D. This is worth exploring further, because your reading says that with the sun come sbetter health, so you may be Vitamin D deficient and it could be worth taking a supplement.
Physical: 9 Cups:At a physical level i am eating , enjoying and don’t have any problems.
Future:2 Coins: This is my indecisiveness, am I ill or i am not..
These two cards close together suggest you might be suffering from mild indegestion. 9 cups can overindulge in rich foods, and 2 coins makes us feel, well, almsot car-sick, that sensation of will the food settle down or not.
Your final two cards are wodnerful. The 9 wands shows robust health and a strong constitution.

Oh Stelios, well done on getting hold of the Balbi tarot, they are so difficult to find now.
You’ve drawn a very interesting spread. My initial impression is to wonder who is encouraging this person to keep pressurising you. Let me explain why I think this.
The 7 swords always shows a middle person, who speaks to one person on behalf of someone else, or relays gossip.
The Knight wands is the messenger, and we can take this as phone calls and texts.
The knight of cups is the lover who is elusive (Perhaps this is how she sees you), but it is also her, showing up occasionaly, as if you might be excited to see her.
There are several implications as to the advice being given by the cards here.
1 – Ask around and find out who is encouraging this person. Who keeps relaying the idea that you might be interested?
2 – Use someone else (7 swords) to relay (knight of wands) information to you as to when this person is approaching/going to turn up/is nearby, so that you can go elsewhere (knight cups)
3 – Put around a rumour (7 swords) that you are unavailable (knight cups) Make out that you already have a relationship.
Good luck!

Toni, what does the ace of pentacles in the level of mind mean,if it is for a relationship, romance and is not money,or the same interest?
LikeLike
Hi Stelios.
For romance there are two ways the Ace of Coins could be interpreted in the level ofthe mind.
1) A deep sense of knowing someone. This is not emotional, as with the 5 cups, but a sense that you have met this type of person before and therefore immediately know whether or not you will get on with them for any length of time.
2) Money! Yeah, it always comes back to money, even for romance. It’s really saying, ‘what’s this person worth to me?’ Will they introduce me to the right people? What is their value? Can they add value to my life? Are they a financial or educational equal?
Even when in romance the coins are very business like, very practical.
In a negative romantic situation the coins will start sayin things such as, ‘You’re not worth it,’ or ‘you’ve never brought anything to this relationship.’

Hello Toni
That’s so meaningful.
I want to mention some cards by their “popular” meaning , and your opinion about this.
The first is the Five Of Cups,as you mentioned. For all pictorial it is loss.
To the system of symbols it is a soul connection,or a bad atmosphere.
What’s your point of view for both?
The second is the Five of Coins,as for pictorial it is financial loss and not being supported, you have the meaning of support.
And finally the Five of Swords,as defeat, and the Seven of Swords as Dishonesty.
LikeLike
Hi Stelios,
I think the interpretation comes down to which pack you’re using. If you’re using a pictorial tarot, then you’re using the pictures as stimulation for your interpretation. I use numbers and the suit symbols, no pictures. The number 5 relates to the ether or akashic level – the space between the physical and causal worlds. Cups symbolise emotion. Put the two together and you have emotion at the etheric level, which is why the card can mean a haunting. The emotion is locked in a place between the different planes. We walk into a room and we sense the atmosphere. Or, someone can emotionally affect us even if they are many miles away, or even dead. The atmosphere does not have to ‘bad.’ Atmosphere’s hold many emotions, although we’re mre prone to react to a bad vibe. Joy we tend to take for granted! For these reasons I don’t see the 5 cups as a loss, unless you’re referring to the emotional attachment to the person or thing that is lost. They are still affecting you. I would never see this card as a loss of physical property, unless that property held great emotional significance.
I have to wonder where you’re getting the interpretation of ‘financial loss’ for the 5 coins. In the Waite deck, which ALL other pictorial tarots are derived from, the card is illustrated with a female in ragged clothes accompanying a crippled male lepar as they walk through the snow. They are walking past a church, maybe suggesting that they cannot go in and be ‘saved.’ Yet they have each other. They are not alone, and are supporting each other through their difficult times. When we lose faith, we can often be surprised as to how another human being can end up being an angel in disguise. I do not see financial loss in this card. Again, 5 sits at the etheric level, and coins are wisdom/wealth. This cards makes us question whether money is important, and shows us the wisdom to understand that companionship has far more value.
5 swords is swords (mind) sitting at the etheric level. I do not see this as defeat, but persuasion. We may end up feeling defeated because someone clevel persuaded us against our better judgement. It is also a card of changing one’s own mind on a subject. Usually it is one’s highest held beliefs which have been changed because something in life has shown us that our beliefs were badly placed.
7 swords – this is not a dishonest card. It is a card of cunning, but that doesn’t make it dishonest.

Toni, could you help with the five of cups , in the physical realms? As someone’ actions?

Hi Stelios,
The 5 cups doesn’t tend to have a physical action, it has an emotiona or psychic action.
Let’s make up a scene that will help explain it: You decide to go to the cinema with your girlfriend and some other friends. Most people want to see film A, but your girlfriend wants to see film B. You decide that you shold both go and see film A and stay with your group of friends, after all, you’re all out to have fun together. For the rest of the evening your girlfriend exudes a bad vibe, because she didn’t get to see the film she wanted to see. Your friends pick up on the vibe, and the evening is spoilt. Your girlfriend did not take phyiscal action, such as shouting or threatening to go home, but she did take emotional action, and made everyone’s life a misery.

10 swords- hierophant- chariot
it says: feel your sadness(10 Sw) and talk about it(hierophant) , give your advises but follow your right path,
it tells to break the relationship? Because I don’t want to do it.The point is to stay together.Neither for me to follow out.

Hi Stelios,
I think you’ve interpreted this spread very well, although there is one alternative interpretation, which doesn’t have such a sad conclusion.
Yes, the 10 swords is the sadness, and yes, the hierophant says to talk it through – and listen to each other!
However, although the Chariot does say for them to follow their true path, it can also mean for you BOTH, as a couple, to find a way through this that suits you both.
The next question for you to ask is, “What course of action do I need to take for the best?”
The question you initially posed is ‘what best standpoint,’ so now it’s time to ask about action.

I think you have read these cards very clearly.
The two Kings show the two sides of himself which are in conflict. The King of Wands loves the idea of adventure, while the King of Cups wants to be close and romantic (much more stay-at-home)
The 7 wands says that to wish her well is the only way forwards.
There’s an old saying that if you let someone go and they return, then they are yours. If you persuade them to stay by your side, then they are not yours at all.

These cards do imply that the journey will be undertaken.
2 swords – keeping the peace (which means she may not feel comfortable speaking openly with you before she leaves)
Queen of Cups – she loves you, but she also has to fulfil her heart’s desire.
8 wands – This is a very passionate and sponatenous card, so she may well leave quite suddenly, as if she’s fed up with thinking and talking about it and must take action.

Hello Toni,
I would like a clarification my dear.
About Magician , Empress and Emperor.
The magician is ideas that can be manifest..so and the empress is planning and giving birth to something.Where is the difference between them , and with an example? And for the empress is mother nature, our true self, and emperor our true identity.Again here where is the difference?
LikeLike
Hi Stelios,
Hi Stelios, let’s see if I can make them any clearer for you.
The Magician is our ability to do all things. He has a quick mind and starts new enterprises easily and efficiently. The Magician is full of potential. He says that it is time to take action, BUT only surrounding cards will show whether he is acting yet and what kind of action he is taking.
The Empress is mother nature (plants, trees, rivers, animals etc) and our true nature.
Let us say that your true nature is to be caring and nurting. Then, someone comes along and says, ‘let’s go into business together as money-lenders, it will help the poor.’ The Magician in you will jump at the opportunity to take action and help the poor. However, once you see the poor people go even further into debt because of your business you’ll find that it goes against your TRUE nature, and feels very uncomfortable. The Empress wanted to give birth to this business, and the Magician was very capabale, so it took place.
The Emperor is our sense of self and identity. ‘I am.’ When we have a good sense of self we do not make this type of rash decision. We know our self, and even if we want to act through our true nature and help people with our Magician like skills, we KNOW what will suit us or not. The Emperor is not greedy. He is good at business and what type of business suits him.
So, the Emperor will say to the Empress, ‘helping the poor have more money is good, but we can start a charity, and make a small profit to pay for our efforts.’ This is how the self-knowledge and wisdom possesed by the Emperor helps guide both the Empress and the Magician.

The High Priestess is a very exciting card. She says that you are not to know what might lay ahead this year, which means that the year will be full of surprises, and that seeds you have laid down in your unconscious will start to come to fruition. She also means that this year, whatever you do, will lay important seeds for your future.
Talking of seeds, she is also a card of pregnancy! So if you aren’t ready to have children, do be careful.

Hello Toni, how are you dear?
I watched a reading with three cards with a lenormand deck. But it was the technique I would like your opinion.
They called the first card as the subject, the theme, the second card as the adjective of the first, and the third as where the two previous are leading the the topic.
For example, the reading had as first the Fox ( lies) second the knight ( movement ) and third the star (guidance) and they said it as Lies that are moving everywhere as a guidance.Tragic.
How would you find it with tarot.?

Hello Toni,
I asked the cards about a specific job that my aunt ttold me and wanted my cv to give it to her manager.I pulled 3 cups- 9 cups- hanged man.
Now,with three cups I think that I loved it even only hearing about it,and with nine cups ,we were discussing it with my aunt yesterday to an event, and I wanted it more. Now I am considering about the hanged man, because my aunt told me that the manager took leave because she is pregnant, and she will send my cv but it would be more helpful with that woman there. What do you think about my interpretation? The hanged man is sure waiting, but I will get it? I pulled 6 cups after that and for clarification to the hanged man lovers and king of cups

Hi Stelios,
Time has moved on since you posted this, so you may not be waiting anymore
Certainly the Hanged Man means waiting, and being unable to act until you hear something.
The 6 of cups implies that you are familiar with the type of work involved and the lovers says that you have to decide if the job will make you content (king of cups)
There is every posibility of you being offered this job, but do you want it? Will it make you happy? If it will, then it is worth waiting for.

Hello Toni,
my gosh , you are right. How did you understand that he is passive??
And what you would like to see , to understand that he is active??
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
Sometimes in Tarot you have to interpret what isn’t there, just as much as what is shown. King wands reversed shows him as scaterred in his activities, and the page of wands as a child.
You are shown as 10 wands, responsible. 3 swords and 2 batons show you feeling angry with him, yet also dominated. You are doing all of the emotional stuff. There is nothing which suggests that he nurtures you, or pampers you. He frustrates you!
It’s all about placement within the spread as to how he would be seen as active. Maybe knight of wands followed by 9 of cups – he actively phones and says ‘let’s go out for dinner.’ Even if he was shown as the King of Coins, at least he’d have the excuse of working hard, but wands court cards prefer to play, and be left to play without intereference.
So much suggests that you carry him in this relationship. It needs a shake-up!

Hi Toni,
I want to ask about the love in tarot. All the cups show us love.Isn’t it wright?
What about the majors?Which major do mean that there is love in the air?Only the Star and the Sun?Empress?Chariot?Or chariot more passion?
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
It all depends on the individual and how they experience love. To some people it’s companionship, to others it must have passion, or even danger.
In general the cups are romantic, although some cards, like the 4 cups, talk of the hurt and pain of romantic attachment.
With the suit of cups we want to be loved by return.
In the major cards the Sun is unconditional love, and we do not need to be loved by return in order to love.
The star is a card of hope, but not specifically love.
The empress is fertility and being true to yourself, but not specifically love. It might show the ‘preety girl’ but not the emotion associated with being with that person.
The chariot can represent the passion of chasing the lover, or of knowing a romantic partner is the right person to be with, but it doesn’t show the love/emotion.
Only the cups and the Sun truly depict love.

And please could you explain as you always do , the suits in the real world?
All the books have more philosophical interpretations or very general.
The wands for you are the self?Cups love, swords mind,,pentacles wisdom, but how all these are sensed in the reality?

Hi Sofia,
In general terms, here we go. These are for upright cards, not reversed. So these are the positive side of each suit.
The Cups symbolise our desire to love and be loved. They’re all about our emotional reactions to people, places and things. Desire, yearning, attachment. Think of all the time syou say things like, ‘I love going to that restaurant.’ ‘I love that painting.’ ‘I love my best friend.’ All of these expressions show that we emotionally connect with these things/people in a positive way.
Wands – Being true to yourself. Loving nature and wildlife, the great-outdoors. Good ability with sports. Loving colourful things. Feely sexy! Being active and holding a genuine interest in everything you do. Liking to laugh. Seeing the funny side of life.
Swords – Enjoying thinking, puzzles, analysing problems. Honesty. Truth. Sometimes liking to argue because you enjoy the debate, the challenge. Precision. Paying attention to detail. Thinking before you act.
Pentacles – Wisdom and wealth. A desire to have more knowledge about a particular subject than anyone else. Enjoys study and learning. Money! A good head for business. Interested in architecture, and other solid things you can touch such as scuplture, rocks, wood. Practical. Documents that say you have wisdom or wealth. e.g. a degree, a bank note.
A simple example would be a wands card next to a coins card showing that the person’s pnature is for creating something physical, such as ceramics.

But what about the four aces Toni?
What are they? Like a desire for the suit? And what do they mean in mental and physical positions?
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
The 4 aces hold the essence of the suit. In the mind they can be viewed as a desire to use that essence, but they can also symbolise using it.
With All of the suits you have to take into consideration whether the sit itself holds physical qualities as to how it will react at each level. So…
The Ace of Swords rules the mind. Thinking, honesty, truth, integrity. In the mind it depicts honest thinking. At the physical level it can represent honest talking or a desire for those around you to be honest. (Reversed shows lying-untruths, untruths = ‘you look great in that dress,’ when in fact it looks awful, but the person doesn’t want to uspet you. Is saying that a lie, or someone using their integrity?)
The Ace of cups = the heart chakra. Ones ability to love and be loved. It does NOT mean being ‘IN love.’ In the mind it means having a kind nature, being loving towards others. At a physical level it can mean the same, but also a desire to be loved in return (NOT boy girl relationship love) Being affectionate towards others.
Ace of Wands = ones true nature, an initial spark of an idea, ones sexual nature. The wands are much more physical than the swords, so in the mind there is an idea, or a desire to be natural or sexy, but it doesn’t mean that anything is happening. At the physical level, because it’s an ace, it’s still at a conceptual point, so unless it’s followed by suitable cards, nothing will be happening. You may feel sexy…but where’s the person to be sexy with?
Ace coins = I’ve covered some of this in my response to Stelios. Ace of coins = knowledge, wisdom, wealth, and pieces of paper that show you have wisdom or wealth. e.g. your bank statement, or your degree certificate. In the mind it’s a desire for these things, and at the physical level it’s acquiring or using these things. e.g. If the question is ‘how do I get a job?’ and the ace of coins comes up as the answer, then it means ‘show them your degree certificate and rewrite your CV (work resume)’ The degree and resume show that you have the knowledge needed to do the work involved.

And the six and seven of swords in the physical?
This 7 is very difficult.it’s not always a third person
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
The 6 of swords is a struggle. At the physical level it can mean having a headache, because the mind is over taxed and thinking too much. It’s over-thinking, which means that simple tasks can take far longer than they need to.
7 swords can represent gossip, which isn’t always pleasant. It’s also cunning and negotiation, via a third person. Sometimes WE are the third person, being used in someone else’s game.
The 7 swords is always a reaction to the reversed 3 of swords. 3 swords rev is bottled up and unexpressed anger, jealousy and hatred. Later in life we shout at someone, not because they have done anything wrong, but because we are expressing the anger we should have expressed previously to someone else. Even if we don’t see that someone else, that third person is always present in the 7 swords.

Hi Toni,
would you give an idea about the World card mental and physical?
All books write rthat it’s a wonderful card.
And the lovers in the physical,do make their choices? Or considering?
LikeLike
Hi Ian,
The World card at the mental level is about having big ideas and desiring to expand horizons. Everything feels as if it possible and limitless.
At the physical level the World card represents new beginnings, going on holiday, and the ability to step into the world as a new person, hence re-birth.
The World card is also associated with physical birth. So in the mind it is the desire to have a child, and at the physical it’s the act of giving birth.
The Lovers, is maybe more complex.
At both levels it means that a decision is needing to be made. At the mental it’s simply thinking about the options. At the physical only surrounding cards will show whether any decision has been made or not. Blocking cards, such as 2 batons, will show that no decision has been made. Surrounding cards will also show whether the questioner needs to gather more information before making the decision.
To confuse the issue, sometimes the Lovers shows that the decision has been made, but that the questioner is not ready to act yet.
The Lovers is also about our ability to discrimate, and by it’s placement within a reading illustrates how our upbringing and parental guidance has influenced the way in which we go about making decisions.
The surrounding cards will also show whether the need to make this choice has been sprung on us by circumstances, or is something that we are deliberating from personal choice.
The decisions outlined by the Lovers are always the BIG life-changing choices.

Hello Dear Toni,
please write something about three coins to general and love..
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
The 3 coins is about being master of our own destiny. It’s also about learning new skills, and therefore depicts students and teachers. It rules architects and architecture as well, because it’s the ability to build something physical. (by the times we reach No 4 the building is already standing) Other 3 dimensional art forms such as pottery and sculpture are also depicted.
There is a certain amount of domination of others in the 3 coins, because we are the boss. This means that in a romantic relationship we like to stay in control, because we feel we know how the relationship needs to be structured. If we are in relationship with a 3 coins type then we may keep agreeing with them, because we feel they know more than us. If we’re represented by the 3 coins, then we need to be careful not to overwhelm our partner, and let them make relationship choices as well, such as where to go out to for dinner.

Hi Toni,
how are you?
Toni, what about the fool in the mental, and physical level?and the wheel?
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
The Fool is such a wonderful card. He represents Freedom. In the mental he represents the freedom to have our own thoughts, without guilt or shame. He will also show that we are thinking of leaving a situation that no longer suits us.
At the physical level the Fool is our ability to walk away from any situation cleanly, without feeling guilty. However, if we are leaving a relationship, the other person may feel that the Fool has acted ruthlessly and selfishly. It is what is right for the Fool, not what is right for anyone else.
The Fool can also act very rashly, or foolishly, without thought for others, BUT it IS what is right karmically for the Fool. He walks his own walk, and rarely joins religions or restricting organisations.
The Wheel in the mind shows that the thoughts are going up and down. In both the mental and physical surrounding cards are very important. Sometimes the wheel shows that we are waiting or time to pass, and that meanwhile life goes on as normal.
In the physical the Wheel shows the changing seasons. It again says that time passes. It will show, by surrounding cards, whether we feel in control of our destiny, or if others are pulling our world round and round.
The wheel is cyclical, so it can represent repeat events, such as birthdays and anniversaries.
Surrounding cards will show whether the wheel is turning fast or slow, therefore showing stress or impatience. When fast we think, ‘stop the wheel! I wnat to get off and stop for a while!’ When slow we say, ‘I wish summer was here.’

Oh Toni thanks,
should I ask you the same ,about the hanged man, and the moon? Mentally and physically?
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
Hanged Man – he’s all about doing nothing
At the mental level he can represent the questioner deliberately deciding to step back from a situation and see what happens next.
At the physical level there is the greater possibility that life circumstances are forcing the person to do nothing, and in this situation it can appear frustrating.
With the hanged man you always have to look at what cards you have in the mental and physical that are affecting him. For example, the hanged man in the mental and the 3 swords at the physical would show that someone is not involving themself in the argument – at that point in time.
The key phrase for the hanged man is ‘there is action in no action.’
The Moon represents fear.
At the mental level there is a higher possibility that the fears and anxieties about going forwards are in the questioners mind. For example, fear of taking an exam.
At the physical level the fear is about taking action and confronting that fear.
So, at the mental it’s worrying about taking a driving test, while at the physical it’s getting into the car and actually taking it.

Hello Toni,
I saw that in a reading the major arcana has more power and influence on the spread, and that the minor has lesser, and it is not as life chanting as the major.
is this true? We must take this into consideration? Like the major what we trully go for,and the minor as little everyday events?
I saw a spread with three cards that was emperor,sun,2 swords and the woman said that because the girl has a powerful male figure in her life, she is walking through the sun,she is happy and comfortable having him to protect her,and the only minor problem in the future would be that she can not make her own decisions because of her comfortable way by him…she louded that the problem isn’t strong cause it’s minor Arcana.
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
I don’t see this as the case at all.
The Major Cards are about our core being. Minor cards are life events, but very often life events can prevent parts of our core being coming to fruition. Therefore these obstacles become of far greater significance than the Major Card.
In your spread the Emperor is very strong. It may be the questioner, or someone else in their life. The Sun says that the Emperor helps the questioner feel content and happy.
However, the 2 swords suggests that there is a price to be paid for this! The 2 of swords is tension and friction. If the Emperor is a strong person in the questioner’s life who makes them happy, then the 2 of swords implies that the questioner is unable to speak their mind to the Emperor and is always holding their tongue. They do NOT feel entirely at ease with this person, so the apparent happiness is built on their continuous subservience to the Emperor.
In this reading the 2 of swords takes on great power, because it shows what needs to be addressed and worked on in order to achieve true happiness. There is the suggestion that the questioner is intimidated by the Emperor, and that he is only protecting her if she doesn’t question his decisions.

And if we had king wands high priestess and four swords? And vice versa high priestess king wands and four swords?
I use the Thoth deck, does it have differences for the meanings do you think?
LikeLike
Hi Sofia,
Apologies for the delay in responding. I haven’t been well recently, so now I’m trying to catch up with everything
Sometimes on the Thoth deck Crowley wrote the more negative interpretations for the cards, and that is the main point to be aware of. He also used numbers and symbols rather than pictures, so there is much more room for interpretation.
King wands-high priestes – 4 words would mean that a usually strong and brave man has something he’s unable to comprehend going on his his life, which makes him more introvert than usual. It may also mean that he’s unwell.
High priestess – king wands – four of swords has a very similar interpretation, although here the king of wands is more aware that he’s unaware of something and therefore chooses to take time alone to contemplate.

But, the page of coins does or doesn’t take risks?I think that to the mental position maybe he is wondering to take the risk, and to the physical he takes it?
As the page of swords?
LikeLike
Hi Ian,
Yes, you are correct, but also, whether or not the page of coins takes a risk is also highlighted by the cards which come after him. These will show whether or not the risk was taken.
The Page of Swords is probably the most complex card in the entire deck. A few words will not do him justice, and I don’t have time to write an entire book this evening
The page of swords is a mental gymnast. Think of him as a boxer, always on his toes, constantly moving to avoid a blow (confrontation) yet always judging where to strike next. In the position of the mind he’s watching, observing, like a spy. At the physical level he’s acting, snooping, outsmarting.
Here are some of the types of people and professions he represents:
Spies
Soldiers
Gay men and women
Barristers
Alcholics
Drug addicts
Mathematical genius
Sales men
Policemen
Actors
Think of all of these professions and types of people, and you’ll start to grasp how complex the page of swords is. Think of what they have in common, and yet how different they are. What mind-games do they play? How do they enhance their personalities by using their minds?
